Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained substituting Mohamed Salah during victory over Newcastle United.

Salah's goal in the 25th minute completed a comeback for the hosts after Jonjo Shelvey had given the visitors a shock lead early on.

And that strike from the Egyptian, which made it 2-1, was the 15th successive Premier League match in which he has either scored or assisted in, equalling Jamie Vardy 's record.

But Salah was hauled off well before Trent-Alexander-Arnold 's late sealer when the game was from from over, with Klopp bringing on Roberto Firmino to see-out the match.

"Today was right to take him off a bit earlier," the Liverpool boss told BT Sport, explaining his decision which left the 29-year-old visibly frustrated in the 74th minute.

"We play in three days again."

On Salah's latest landmark, Klopp said: "That's quite amazing that. His assists are as important [as the goals]."
