Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.

Paul Saluang pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Elsie Primus, to the charge against him.

He was found taking the drug on Oct 5 this year after his urine was tested positive for drug at the Penampang police station.

Paul has several conviction records for taking drugs.

The court ordered him to be placed under police supervision for three years after serving the jail sentence.

He was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest.

The offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C (2) of the same Act which provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.

Meanwhile, three illegal immigrants were jailed four months and to be caned once for entering the State illegally.

They were Aliono Yono, Raju and Ruka admitted to entering the State after they were detained by the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement and they failed to produce any document.

The illegal immigrants were arrested on Dec 15 this year and after completing their jail sentence, they were ordered referred to the Immigration Department.
