Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks says manager Antonio Conte just needed to give him a chance to prove himself.
Earlier in the campaign it had appeared that the 25-year-old's Spurs career was under threat but he credited the coach with allowing him the chance to express himself on the pitch.
After the draw at Southampton, when asked what Conte had changed about his game, Winks replied: “Nothing.
“He's just given me an opportunity, he's given me game time, a chance to go out there and prove myself and leave it down to me.
“It's nice to be part of the team again and get some minutes and play, but you can see the disappointment when you come away from the result today and we should have won this."
Winks labelled the draw at St Mary's as “not good enough" and outlined where Tottenham went wrong when chasing a second-half winner following Mohammed Salisu's red card.
“We said at half-time we need to move from side to side as quickly as possible, and eventually tire them out," he added.
“I think at times we probably rushed it a bit and maybe tried to score too early and too quickly in the build-up. It's something we need to watch back and learn from, to be a bit more patient."
