Kota Kinabalu: Keningau karateka Amirah Syahirah Azlan has made the national team to the Asian Karate Federation's 19th Asian Cadet, Junior and Under-21 Karate Championships, it has been reported.
Sabah Karate Association Secretary-General Julian Chin said it was again an honour for Sabah to have a representative on the national team.
“It will be Amirah’s second appearance in the (Asian Cadet, Junior and U-21) championships after making her tournament debut in 2019 when the event was held here in Sabah," Chin told a local paper Sunday.
“She will compete in the women’s under-21 Individual Kumite 61kg and below event and also the Team Kumite event."
Chin said the association had not set a target for Amirah but hoped she will excel in the tournaments
“Apart from that, it is also hoped that Amirah can get something from this competition especially with some of the Asian bests in the championships,” said Chin.
The championships serve as a test for the karatekas and early preparations for the SEA Games and Asian Games 2022.
Amirah and the national squad will depart for Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
The continental event, postponed last year because of the pandemic, will take place in Almaty city on Dec 19-22.
