Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta gave a blunt response when asked why Nicolas Pepe was left on the bench against Everton on Monday.

Pepe, the club's record signing, has played five minutes in the last seven Premier League games and none at all in the three games Arsenal have lost.

And Arteta has said he preferred Eddie Nketiah to Pepe in the 2-1 defeat at Goodison Park.

When quizzed if there was a particular reason why Pepe has not been involved recently, Arteta responded: "Because I decided to play Eddie today. To bring him on.

"He created three chances and hit the post once in 25 minutes I think."
