
Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, Monday, with assaulting his 72-year-old father.
Nicholos Joseph Green allegedly causing hurt to Joseph Green at 9.45pm on Nov 22 in a house at Kg Imbahan, Ketiau, Putatan.
No plea was recorded from Nicholos who appeared before Assistant Court Registrar Flora Michael Echun.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Nicholos was also accused of taking drugs as framed under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.
No plea was taken from him pending the chemist’s report.
Inspector Navind Kumar Vijayan proposed bail at RM3,000 in two sureties on each charge.
Nicholos, who was not represented, requested for a lower bail amount, saying that he needed money for his children’s school expenses next year.
The court set Jan 26 for mention of Nicholos’ cases and released him on a bail of RM1,000 in two sureties each.
In another case, a 23-year-old jobless was charged with cheating a man over fuel.
Choo Yu Ping was accused of cheating Kevin Lee Kah Soon by inducing him to hand over five drums and 30 pails of diesel between May 11 and May 15 this year at Syarikat SM Mechanical (M) Sdn Bhd in Likas.
No plea was taken from Choo after the charge was read out to him.
He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between one year and ten years, with whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction. The court fixed Feb 14 for his plea be taken before a Magistrate and was released on a bail of RM1,000 in two sureties.
Meanwhile, Choo was also charged with taking drugs but no plea was recorded while waiting for the chemist’s report.
He was offered bail at RM1,000 in two sureties pending e-review on Feb 10.
