Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS) collected RM113 million in tithes this year.
Minister of Special Tasks Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said many federal and state government-linked companies (GLCs) are coming forward to pay tithes, which is a positive sign.
“I congratulate Muis for implementing the collection of tithe and thank all who came forward to perform this good deed. This year, Muis managed to get more collection than last year.
“In 2020, a total of RM101m was collected, while this year, RM113 million was been collected. We expect more people to come forward to perform paying tithe until end of this year,” he said, after witnessing presentation of business tithes by seven representatives of GLCs and private companies to Muis head Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin.
They are AgroBank, Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad, FM Fresh Mart, Adhwa Enterprise, Koperasi Maktab Sabah Berhad and Boustead Plantations Berhad.
Also present was Muis Deputy head Malai Ali Malai Ahmad. He called on traders who succeeded in making profits to come forward to pay business tithe.
