KUALA LUMPUR – In an apparent game of cat and mouse, police have closed parts of Jalan Bangsar after #TangkapAzamBaki rally organisers changed their gathering point following massive closures in the city centre yesterday.
In a statement issued just before midnight, police said the section of Jalan Bangsar between the Brickfields and Jalan Maarof exits will be shut.
Traffic from Jalan Travers, Jalan Rakyat, and Jalan Maarof will be redirected away from the main thoroughfare.
This comes after the Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee announced a last minute change of gathering point to Bangsar LRT station instead of the Sogo shopping complex as initially planned.
Yesterday, police announced that they had obtained a court order prohibiting assemblies at Dataran Merdeka, Masjid Jamek, and Sogo.
Police also cautioned against attending the rally, saying that six roads in the city will be closed and over 1,000 officers deployed to monitor the goings-on.
Meanwhile, 25 train stations across the city will also be closed from am to 3pm today in anticipation of the planned rally.
For the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line, closures apply to the Pudu, Hang Tuah, Masjid Jamek, Plaza Rakyat, Bandaraya and Sultan Ismail stations.
While on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line, stations set to be closed are Kg Baru, Dang Wangi, Masjid Jamek and Pasar Seni.
As for the MRT Sg Buloh-Kajang Line, closures would apply to the Bukit Bintang, Merdeka and Pasar Seni stations.
All monorail stations will also close.
For KTM Komuter, closures apply to the Kuala Lumpur, Bank Negara and Putra stations.
The Bangsar LRT station, where protesters are set to gather, will remain open. – The Vibes, January 22, 2022
