Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted he needs to strengthen his midfield stocks.

The Gunners went down 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third-round on Sunday.

Charlie Patino and Albert Sambi Lokonga started in midfield for Arteta's team.

Granit Xhaka and Emile Smith Rowe are injured, while Thomas Partey is away with Ghana at AFCON.

Asked if the loss underlined how important it is to get midfielders in January, Arteta replied: "I want to get the best out of the players that we have.

"I think it's clear where we need to strengthen. But at the moment it's what we have and with what we have we have to play."
