Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta did not mince words regarding the substitution of Nuno Tavares in the 34th minute against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.
The Gunners were humbled by the Championship outfit, losing 1-0 and bowing out of the competition at their first hurdle.
Tavares, who had no injury issue, was poor during his time on the pitch, and was livid with the manager when he was substituted.
"I just did it to try to improve the performance of the team," said the Spaniard.
Asked if he had considered the ramifications on Tavares, Arteta replied: "I understand that, but I have to make the decision to try to improve the performance of the team when it's not going in any other direction."
