Arsenal failed with a bid for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in the summer of 2020.
That's according to Hugo Guillemet of L'Equipe.
He said on Gone Back: "Shortly after the Final 8 of the Champions League, there was an offer from Arsenal for Houssem Aouar: around €25m plus Mattéo Guendouzi.
"Why did Olympique Lyonnais not accept it? It was at a time when they were demanding €60m for Houssem Aouar. I understand that Lyon refused it at the time in fact. With Houssem Aouar's contract, with the performances he had just had in the Final 8 of the Champions League, with Mattéo Guendouzi who had not shown what he showed today at Olympique de Marseille ...
"So it's understandable. At that time, they did not even enter a negotiation phase. The offer sent by Edu, the sporting director of Arsenal, was much too low in fact. They expected €60m, and that's it."
