Police rope in Sedili assemblyman amid sexual harassment claims

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have called in Sedili assemblyman Rasman Ithnain for questioning in Kota Tinggi, Johor yesterday over alleged sexual harassment against a fellow Bersatu party member.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Hussin Zamora said Rasman was roped in for investigations after he was accused of the offence by a member of Bersatu’s Srikandi women’s wing division committee member, Kosmo! reported.

Hussin said Rasman gave his statement at the Kota Tinggi district police headquarters (IPD) on the same day.

“The assemblyman was called in to the Kota Tinggi IPD yesterday (to have his statement recorded). Further investigations are still underway,” Hussin was quoted as saying today.

Earlier, Rasman, who is also the party’s Kota Tinggi division chief, denied the sexual harassment allegations, saying it was politically motivated.

According to Berita Harian, Rasman said he was notified of a police report lodged against him at about 2pm on January 17, adding that the report was filed by a Kota Tinggi Srikandi committee member.

“I wish to categorically deny the allegations in the report. This is a political conspiracy, slander, and an attempt at humiliating me as well as tarnishing my reputation as a representative,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian yesterday evening.

“I am ready to provide full cooperation throughout the process of investigations to ensure that justice is upheld.”

He added that he will consult his legal counsel to take any necessary action against any individual who seeks to taint his image.

Hussin had also earlier said that police had received the report made by the 26-year-old woman at about 11.30am yesterday. – The Vibes, January 18, 2022
