Anthony Gordon has welcomed Everton's two new additions this week.

The squad has been boosted by two January transfer window arrivals over the past week alone in the shape of full-back pair Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kiev and Nathan Patterson from Rangers.

Gordon told the Liverpool Echo: “I've met both of them. They seem like really nice lads.

“They're really young and hungry which means they're going to be determined to produce good performances and they're going to provide an extra boost for the team. It builds better competition and makes the team better.

“We need more competition for places. This year we've had injuries and the Covid so we've had a lot of players missing throughout the season.

“We've signed two really good players there and hopefully they can make an impact.

“Without making excuses, because we certainly have been under-performing, we've never really had a full squad this season.

“We've had Dominic Calvert-Lewin out, Richarlison out and Yerry Mina – main players in the team.

“Hopefully now, with us all together, we can really push on."
