Malaysians online are poking fun at Zuraida Kamaruddin with memes and tweets of monstrous apes after the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities was captured on video claiming that local orangutans kill people.
“In Malaysia, if you see an orangutan, the orangutans will kill you first, you won’t kill the orangutans first. Right?” the 63-year-old could be heard saying.
She was giving a speech about the palm oil industry at an event by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council on January 5.

Social media users took to platforms like Twitter to troll Zuraida about her supposedly murderous gorillas, posting images of killer primates from sci-fi film Planet of the Apes and the Beast Titan from the popular Attack On Titan or Shingeki No Kyojin anime.
I think Zuraida ingat filem Planet Of The Apes tu dokumentari. https://t.co/lKi11XUfCd pic.twitter.com/Y2Vewek6vk

Zuraida was right, orang hutan would definitely kill us first #zuraidabebal pic.twitter.com/IJMALZrzcG
A representative from Zuraida’s office later explained that the clip was taken out of context. She was also advised to take local conservation efforts seriously.
