RANAU: A landslide on Jalan Ranau - Tambunan on Friday night caused the main road connecting both districts to be cut off.

Ranau District Public Works Department (JKR) Chief, Mac Glen Frederick Lojuman said, the incident happened at about 9.00pm at Kilometer 21.2 near Kg Tungou Ranau.

He said a portion of loose soil slid down along with trees and rocks, causing the entire road to be blocked and motorists stranded.

Following the incident, he said JKR had sent two excavators to the scene to clear the rubble.

Mac Glen said, as at publishing time, the concessionaire, Globinaco, is clearing the road.

"It is hoped that road users can use the existing alternative roads, namely Jalan Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan and Jalan Kiulu - Pukak - Rondugong. It is hoped that all road users can be patient and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience," he said.
