KOTA KINABALU – Sabah reported yet another cluster involving students today, as new cases in the state remain over the 300 mark.
State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said a local 18-year-old student from the Almacrest International College has been detected as the index case.
He said the student was staying at the college’s hostel in Api-Api Centre and was detected positive with Covid-19 on January 21 via the RT-PCR test, adding that the cluster is identified as the Lorong Api-Api cluster.
“The index case showed symptoms on January 18 and upon detection, he was immediately sent for isolation and treatment.
“Screening was done on the patient’s 40 close contacts and detected 25 more positive cases, taking the total cumulative cases to 34 cases.
“Six turned out to be negative,” the state local government and housing minister said tonight.
Masidi said overall 40 new cases were detected in the state’s five active clusters, including the new cluster reported today.
The state has already announced the closure of schools with clusters for two to three weeks after 10 clusters involving schools have been reported this month.
The latest cluster takes the total number of clusters involving educational institutions to 11 now.
Meanwhile, Sabah recorded 367 new cases today – seven more cases compared to Sunday – while two individuals have died from the coronavirus. – The Vibes, January 31, 2022
