Tuaran: The Chinese Community Association and Chinese Community Leaders (Kapitan) here received Chinese New Year (CNY) “ang pau” from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, Sunday.

Hajiji, who is also the Sulaman State Assemblyman, announced that the Chinese Community Associations each will receive an allocation of RM5,000, while the Chinese Kapitans will receive RM2,000 each.

He said the Tuaran area, including Dalit, Tamparuli and Kiulu state constituencies, now has a total of seven Chinese Kapitans and the number will be increased if there is a need.

“The given financial assistance is a sign of my warmth and love as the Chief Minister in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration,” he said at a friendly get together with Tuaran District Chinese Community Leaders in Tembara Ku, Kampung Serusop, here on Sunday.

Also present were Hajiji’s wife, Datin Seri Juliah Salag, Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) Chairman Tan Sri David Chu, Sabah Gerakan Party Liaison Chairman Datuk Alexander Lo Su Hyen and State Finance Minister’s Political Secretary Datuk Johari Saiman.

Hajiji hopes that in the year of the Tiger 2022, the economic situation in Sabah and the country will recover and improve.

He is confident that the country’s borders will be opened soon, so that tourism activities can be mobilized to stimulate economic growth.

“When the country’s borders are opened, we want tourism activities to increase. The arrival of many foreign tourists will bring benefits to the state, especially employment opportunities for our people and local economic activities,” he said.

On the coming Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 1 and 2 2022, he said the uniqueness of Sabah is that the festivity is also celebrated together by the community and other races in the state.

While wishing a happy Chinese New Year, Hajiji hoped the people would continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) still enforced by the authorities, to curb the re-spread of Covid-19, especially with the emergence of new variants,

Although the Covid-19 cases were showing a decline, he said the people should not be complacent at all, instead they should always remain in compliance with the SOPs.
