BEAUFORT: The District Fire and Rescue Station received 580 calls for various emergencies and five for flood-related cases last year.

District Fire and Rescue Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said of these, 100 were fire-related distress calls, 310 rescue-related, 170 related to special services and five fire-related.

He said the fire-related emergencies involved houses, forests and weeds, removing vehicle accident victims and victims trapped in cars.

Special services-related calls included catching snakes, destroying wasp nests and evacuating flood victims, as well as public sanitation.

He said the rescue-related calls were more focused on road accidents that recorded no deaths.

He also said no one was missing or killed in the five major floods that occurred here last year.

“We appreciate the public for their good collaboration last year during which no prank calls were received.

“Prank calls will waste our time. We will not hesitate to take action against those who make a prank call,” he said.

Muhammad Hasbullah also urged the public to call the District Fire and Rescue Station Control Room at 087-212025 when faced with an emergency.
