Man fined RM100 over RM6,500 in his account

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old electrician was fined RM100 or three days’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for fraudulently having RM6,500 in his bank account, two years ago.

Tan Heng Wei pleaded guilty before Senior Assistant Registrar Tiong Wen Wen, who sat as a magistrate, to having the money in his CIMB Bank account through transactions, which he failed to give a satisfactorily explanation on how he obtained them on April 30, 2020.

Tan had committed an offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both, on conviction.

In another case, an unemployed man was charged with dishonestly misappropriation of properties.

Jonathan Chong Chun Yung, 35, pleaded not guilty to a charge of misappropriating customer service fees amounting to RM671.60 for three customers, which belonged to Cheah Hock Boon for his personal use.

Chong allegedly committed the offence at KJ Automative Inc, Mile 5 ½ Kg Mogonibung, Jalan Penampang between March 1, 2021 and March 29 the same year.

The charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction.

The court set Feb 22 for pre-trial case management and released Chong on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.

Meanwhile, two men were jailed for having syabu.

Azman Yusuf and Charles Paulus were sentenced to 12 months and seven months jail respectively after they pleaded guilty to committing the offence here on Oct 31 and Aug 10, last year.

They were each charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years or jail or both, on conviction.
