Kota Kinabalu: Team Kepayan Bravo Blue from Royal Malaysian Police, emerged champions in the Olympia Sabah Cup Team Badminton Championship held at Olympia Badminton Arena in Inanam over the weekend.
The team led by Assistant Superintendent Mohd Yassin Sagap defeated Team AturMaju 2-0 in the final to take home the RM5,000 cash prize.
Their first point came from the mixed pair of Inspector Nurwati Ismail and Sergeant Ishak Abdul Razak after they beat Tan Sue Lin and Ku Zen Yie 31-27.
Samrin Abdul Sahi and Lance Corporal Mohd Fadhly Mat Nor then delivered the title-winning point in the doubles with a 31-25 victory over Gan Jen Sen and Jack Chin.
In third place were Team Lahad Datu Plus following their 2-1 win over Kepayan Bravo Yellow in the playoff.
Meanwhile, organiser Jacko Pan said the main purpose of staging the inaugural tournament is to play their part in providing a platform for badminton enthusiasts especially the youth to showcase and develop their skills.
