Newcastle's Head of Recruitment Steve Nixon is overseeing the signing of Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes today.
Sky Sports says Nixon is in Brazil today to wrap up a deal for Guimaraes.
He will be undergoing a medical later this afternoon ahead of a £40m move to the Magpies.
The initial bid is £33.5m, with a further £6.5m in add-ons.
Guimaraes had previously been linked with Arsenal, but is now seemingly on the verge of a move to the Toon.
