Liverpool's Under-23 side got the New Year off to the best possible start, winning their first game of the year against Derby County.

The Reds' youngsters had to work very hard to overcome their opponents, with Derby making life difficult for them from kick off.

An Eiran Cashin own goal was enough to settle the tie, with the strike coming in the second half.

Despite being on top for long periods at Loughborough University Stadium, the Reds were unable to make their possession count for meaningful chances at goal.

However, the 72nd minute own goal was enough to give Liverpool Under-23s all three points in the game.
