Man gets death for trafficking syabu

TAWAU: A 33-year-old man was sentenced to death for trafficking 52.13gm of syabu four years ago.

High Court Judge Dr Lim Hock Leng handed the sentence to Benhar Hussin, after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt against Benhar.

Benhar was found guilty of trafficking the drugs at 8.30pm on Jan 14, 2018 inside a car near the Lahad Datu police station.

The offence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carried the death sentence, on conviction.

The drugs were found by police when Benhar run away after involving in an accident.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hurman Hussain appeared for the prosecution while counsel Victora Chee defended Benhar.
