KUNAK: A Toyota Land Cruiser was destroyed in a fire which occurred on Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu, near Tingkayu here, Tuesday afternoon.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) chief Mohammad Omarbatha said the four-wheel drive (4WD) was believed to have caught fire while being towed to Kunak Town.
The Fire Department received an emergency call at 1.20pm and a team led by PBK II Operations Officer, Rosman Gari together with a Fire Rescue Tender machine was deployed to the scene located 24 kilometres from the fire station.
“The team carried out the extinguishing operation using a single ‘hose reel’ to control the fire from spreading”, he said, adding that the vehicle was 100 per cent destroyed.
“There were no injuries or deaths in the incident and the situation was brought under control at 1.42pm and before being ended completely at 2.06pm,” he said when contacted.
