‘Let’s jog’: anti-Azam rally to gather in Bangsar instead

KUALA LUMPUR – The #TangkapAzamBaki rally scheduled tomorrow will gather at the Bangsar LRT station, instead of the Sogo Shopping Mall as initially planned.

Earlier today, police announced that they had obtained a court order prohibiting assemblies at Dataran Merdeka, Masjid Jamek, and Sogo.

Police also cautioned against attending the rally, saying that six roads in the city will be closed and over 1,000 officers will be deployed to monitor the goings-on.

Despite these warnings, the organiser – Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee – tweeted shortly after the announcement: “We take note of the road closures... Looks like we’ll have to jog.

“These excessive measures give the appearance that secrets involving high-profile characters are being covered up,” Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee said in a statement today.

Over 30 civil society groups have thrown their support behind the protest.

Among the groups are Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat, Bersih, and Muslim Youth Movement Malaysia.

Also in support of the rally are youth groups of opposition political parties PKR, DAP, and Amanah, as well as Muda and Pejuang. – The Vibes, January 21, 2022
