SEMPORNA: A woman sustained injuries when fire swept through Kg Labuan Haji that destroyed five houses in the water village of Pulau Bum-Bum.
Members of the public rushed Nadia Nasirin to Semporna Hospital for treatment after she sustained burns on her hands.
According to Semporna Fire and Rescue Station Head Faisal Ahmad, firefighters led by Abdul Satal Tulai were dispatched to the location three kilometres from Semporna’s mainland after receiving a distress call at 5.36pm.
Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to 50 houses within the vicinity after bringing the flames under control at 6.34pm.
The operation ended at 6.49pm. The cause of the fire and estimated loss is still being investigated.
