KOTA KINABALU – Sabah has broken another new daily Covid-19 record today, with 5,565 new cases, with over half of them sporadic infections and two new school clusters.
The state’s Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in his daily update that cases went up by 771 cases from 4,794 cases yesterday.
He said 62.4% of the overall cases were caused from sporadic infection or community infections, while 99.59% are in Category 1 and 2.
“Kota Kinabalu reported 1,395 new cases today with 66% sporadic infection – a clear warning to avoid crowded places of gatherings.
“Penampang has 606 cases, 68% of which were caused by sporadic infections.
“Tawau (has) 430 cases with 84% sporadic infections, and Lahad Datu (has) 398 cases,” he said on his Twitter account.
The two new clusters are identified as the Kg Lampada cluster in Kota Marudu and Bukit Langsat cluster in Keningau.
A 36-year-old student management assistant was identified as the index case in the Kg Lampada cluster.
He was found positive during a symptomatic screening on February 15. Some 24 others were found infected from him in a follow-up screening until February 18.
A 21-year-old trainee teacher staying at the female block of the Keningau Teachers Institute was identified as the index case in the Bukit Langsat cluster.
She tested positive on February 10 and close contact screening found 24 new cases until February 14. – The Vibes, February 18, 2022
