Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has slammed the impact of Raphael Varane at Manchester United.

Varane has endured an injury-plagued first season in England since his arrival from Real Madrid.

Sherwood said, "If we talk about Raphaël Varane, he has escaped, because he has been terrible. He has been lousy since joining the club.

"When (Victor) Lindelöf last played (2-0 against Brighton on Tuesday night) United looked better.

"It's about finding the best defensive pair, but then the coach must be strong and drop a player who has won the Champions League and the World Cup."
