A TOURIST Information Centre will be built in Kampung Tajau Laut, Kudat, as part of the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry’s (KePKAS) efforts to provide information on interesting destinations around the district such as beaches, islands, historical places and traditional culture of the community, especially the Rungus ethnic group.
Its Minister, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, said KePKAS has approved an allocation of RM109,240 for the purpose.
“The centre will make it easier for both domestic and international tourists to obtain detailed information and thus increase the number of tourists visiting the district,” he said during his working visit to Kudat.
Jafry said KePKAS is always ready to provide assistance in developing potential tourism products as well as to improve the community’s local economy.
For the record, more than RM1.6 million in allocations has been channelled towards tourism development in Kudat.
It includes the construction of the Sidek Esplanade, costing RM1 million which is expected to be completed in June this year.
Jafry said the Puncak Resident Lookout Tower which was funded by the State Government involving a cost of RM638,078 was completed last year.
