Aston Villa fought off multiple attempts to ferry away Douglas Luiz in January, it has been revealed.

The Daily Mail says Villa rejected three offers for Luiz, including one on deadline day from Tottenham.

Arsenal were also linked with a £30million January move for the Brazil international having worked with boss Mikel Arteta at Manchester City, while rivals Spurs ended up signing fellow central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus.

Luiz will therefore remain at Villa Park until the end of the season, a club he has represented 94 times since his move from the current Premier League champions in 2019.

The 23-year-old has fewer than 18 months left on his deal at the West Midlands club and boss Steven Gerrard confirmed last week that discussions had not yet been opened over a contract extension.
