Newcastle United will make a last ditch attempt to sign Matt Targett from Aston Villa.
Having secured Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon, Newcastle are not done with their January spending spree.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle have registered an interest in Targett, who is down the pecking order at Villa since the arrival of Lucas Digne.
Manager Steven Gerrard could let Targett go, given Ashley Young and Calum Chambers can both play left back if necessary.
Eddie Howe wants Targett as his left back until the end of the season, having already signed Kieran Trippier for the right back spot.
