Brighton boss Graham Potter admits they cannot afford to resist big money offers for their best players.

After selling Ben White last summer when Arsenal met their £50m demands, Dan Burn was also allowed to leave the Amex in January but only after previous bids were rejected before Newcastle finally paid their £13million valuation.

Asked if midfielder Yves Bissouma would be better served by spending more time at Brighton than moving on, manager Potter said: "Football decides that. It's not me. Like Ben, you can speak all you want but if someone's prepared to pay the money that it is, you have to listen to that.

"Football decides that and it's not me talking or Yves talking or Tariq Lamptey talking or Robert Sanchez talking or Adam Webster talking. You've got to play, you've got to do well and then who knows?

"As a club we're quite strong. We don't have to sell any of our players, but we understand it's important to our development as a club. We know that that selling players helps us improve and develop as a club.

"It isn't never say never, but it's important that Yves is with us. He's enjoying his football and while he's doing that, I think it's great for us and good for him."
