Aston Villa defeated Brentford in a friendly at Villa Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bees took the lead through Josh Dasilva before the hosts hit back with second-half goals courtesy of Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings to take a 2-1 victory.

Following a cagey opening, the game burst info life after 15 minutes when Jacob Ramsey picked the ball up just inside Brentford's half and embarked on a mazy run that nearly ended in a stunning goal.

The homegrown midfielder immediately began to drive forward, drawing in five defenders before arriving at the penalty box and pulling a shot across goal, forcing David Raya into a one-handed save.

Midway through the first half, Danny Ings tested Brentford's No.1 three times in as many minutes as Villa piled on the pressure. Ings did have the ball in the net after 42 minutes, tapping home a rebound following Carney Chukwuemeka's shot, only for the striker to turn and see the linesman's flag raised for offside.

Less than a minute later, the Bees scored with their first shot of the match when Dasilva capitalised on a defensive mistake and fired past Robin Olsen from a tight angle.

Watkins made his entrance at half-time and levelled the scores after 56 minutes, firing home from the edge of the box after being teed up by Chukwuemeka.

The shots on Brentford's goal continued to rack up and only a superb stop from Alvaro Fernandez denied John McGinn's low drive.

However, the substitute goalkeeper could do nothing to prevent Villa taking the lead after 72 minutes when Mings powered a header back across goal.
