Sabah’s Covid-19 cases will remain high for few days: Masidi  

KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s Covid-19 situation is expected to remain serious given its spiralling percentage of sporadic cases, said Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.  

He said that out of the 5,007 new cases registered today, 63.13% are sporadic cases.  

“Out of today’s new cases, 99.58% are in categories 1 and 2 (mild), while five patients were in category 3, 14 in category 4, and three in category 5,” he said in his update today.  

Masidi said that 606 cases today involve children aged under 11, 42 of them babies under a year old.  

Sabah’s bed capacity for Covid-19 patients, a total of 4,589 units, is at 63.61% today.  

Kota Kinabalu remains the district with the highest number of new cases (1,265), followed by Penampang (719), Tuaran (466), Papar (398), Tawau (355), Sandakan (250), Kota Belud (214), Beaufort (185), Putatan (167), Keningau (161), Kota Marudu (129), Ranau (121), and Lahad Datu (113).  

Sabah also recorded another education cluster today after an 18-year-old secondary school student living in a hostel in SMK Beluran tested positive for the virus and had infected 34 other people.  

As of today, the percentage for those who have completed vaccination in Sabah are 77.26% of adults and 73.56% of teenagers, while 6.2% of children in the state have received the first dose of vaccination to date. –The Vibes, February 20, 2022
