5,007 new cases in Sabah today

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah registered 5,007 additional cases, Sunday, with 63.13 per cent of them being sporadic infections, said State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

“Some 12 districts recorded three-digit new cases,” he said in an update on Twitter.

The top three districts with the highest number of new cases are Kota Kinabalu with 1,265, Penampang (719), and Tuaran (466).

A new cluster was also registered in the State, Sunday – Jalan Beluran Lama Cluster.

The index case for the cluster is an 18-year-old SMK Beluran student who was detected through a symptomatic screening on Feb 17.

Following that, contact screenings witnessed an increase of 34 cases. All cases had been isolated and treated, and non-symptomatic close contacts were also ordered to be quarantined.

Meanwhile, two clusters were ended on Sunday – Kayul (Kuala Penyu) and Pandan-Pandan (Putatan). To date, there are still 41 active clusters in the State.

Masidi also said 4,986 or 99.58 per cent of Sunday’s new cases are in Category 1 and 2.
