Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Wednesday found a floating fish barrel about 12 nautical miles north of Pulau Tiga which was confirmed to belong to a man who had been reported missing since Feb 7.
Sabah and Labuan Maritime Director First Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, in a statement, said the victim’s wife confirmed that the fish barrel belonged to her husband.
Lauren Alipiin, a 33-year-old Filipino, was reported to have gone to fish in the waters of Pulau Tiga and Pulau Mengalum using a yellow-green pump boat with the registration number JN9099/2/R.
“His wife lodged a report to MMEA after failing to contact her husband since Feb 7. This prompted MMEA and the police to mount a search for the man,” he said.
According to Mohd Rosli, the SAR operation continued and he called on the public who have any clues related to the matter to channel directly to the Sabah Maritime Operations Centre and the Federal Territory of Labuan at 088-387774.
