Argentine coaching great Alfio Basile has scoffed at Liverpool's £50m deal for Porto star Luis Diaz.
Diaz - who will wear the No 23 shirt at Liverpool - met Reds manager Jurgen Klopp for the first time on Friday following international duty with Colombia.
But it was not a productive international break for the winger, who played the full 90 minutes in Colombia's 1-0 defeats by Peru and Argentina on Friday last week and on Tuesday this week respectively.
Basile - who managed La Albiceleste between 2006 and 2008 - claims he saw little in Diaz's recent performances for his country to suggest he merits the fee Liverpool paid for him last month.
"That Diaz who Liverpool bought... I didn't see him do anything against Peru or Argentina," Basile told Radio Cooperativa.
He then concluded by simply saying: "How did Liverpool buy Diaz?"
