Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has explained blocking Nicolas Tagliafico from joining Barcelona in January.
Barca pushed to sign the Argentina left-back, but Ajax refused to do business.
Overmars recalled: "Tagliafico's agreement with Barça was very difficult. Yes.
"I wish Nico all the best, but we also have to make sure we don't shoot ourselves in the foot.
"If Barcelona want to sign the player on loan, then we need to have a substitute in that position.
"We want to think about the players, we're also known for that. We did that, but we didn't come up with a good solution.
"I was sad for him."
