
KOTA BELUD: A senior citizen was killed after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) he was driving skidded and plunged into a 25-metre deep ravine along Jalan Ranau Bypass, near Kampung Tambatuon, Friday.
Tambunan Asang, 75, who was driving a Toyota Unser, succumbed to severe head and limb injuries around 7.30am.
Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said the victim was on the way back to his house in Kampung Kiau Taburi from Kota Belud town.
“Upon arrival at the location, the victim, who was alone, lost control and plunged into a ravine on the left side of the road,” he said.
“Members of the public called the Fire Department for assistance. The victim was found trapped and pronounced dead by paramedics.
“Firefighters removed the victim’s body from the wreckage before handing it over to the police,” he said, adding police took the body to the forensic department of Kota Belud Hospital for an autopsy.
Investigation into the case is continuing in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1987.
