Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 cases hit another all-time high of 5,565 on Friday while two more education clusters were identified, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
He said the education clusters were identified in Kota Marudu and Keningau, named as the Kampung Lampada Cluster and Bukit Langsat Cluster, respectively.
The Kampung Lampada Cluster in Kota Marudu stemmed from a 36-year-old student management assistant in SK Lampada’s hostel, who tested positive on February 15.
There are 25 cases in this cluster to date. The Bukit Langsat Cluster in Keningau involved students at the Keningau Teachers Training Institute (IPG), residing at the Cempaka and Dahlia block of the institute’s female dormitory.
“The index case is a 21-year-old female local who was tested positive on Feb 2. Contact screenings found another 24 positive, bringing the tally in this cluster to 25,” he said.
Masidi said there are 42 clusters in Sabah to date, while the Sg Trayon Cluster in Kinabatangan officially ended on Thursday.
Six deaths were recorded, one each in Tawau, Tuaran, Semporna, Penampang, Kota Belud and Papar.
On the caseload, Masidi said Kota Kinabalu continued to top the list with 1,395 cases.
“This figure is one-fifth of Sabah’s entire caseload. 66 per cent of Kota Kinabalu’s cases are sporadic,” he said.
He added that 12 districts recorded three-digit cases, namely Penampang (606), Tawau (430), Lahad Datu (398), Papar (337), Tuaran (320), Sandakan (289), Kota Belud (216), Keningau (215), Putatan (188), Kota Marudu (164), Beaufort (158) and Ranau (104).
Masidi said overall, 62.43 per cent of Sabah’s caseload are sporadic, where the source of infection is unknown.
He reiterated that the high number of sporadic infections indicate that the virus has spread to the entire community and no longer concentrated within a certain locality.
He added that the majority of cases are mild, with 99.59 per cent of cases being category one and two infections, while three cases are in category three, 12 in category four and five in category give.
Some 2,152 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 2,960 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 11,687 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 17, of which 9,930 were adults while 69 were teenagers and 1,688 were children.
As of Feb 17, he said a total of 2,412,194 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.26 per cent were adults, 2,473,777 have gotten their first dose, of which 77.97 per cent were adults.
Masidi added that a total of 338,160 teenagers have received their first dose, while 313,434 have completed both doses, which is 73.54 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 17,391 children have received their first dose.
