Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old jobless man was charged with breaking into a house and stealing several items.

Zakri Jemail appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles via Zoom on Tuesday.

However, no plea was recorded from Zakri after the charge was read to him.

He is accused of breaking into the house in Taman Milek Fasa 1, Jalan Lintas here, at 1.34am on Oct 14, 2021.

Zakri had also allegedly stolen three rolls of electricity cables and one vacuum from the house.

The offence, under Section 457 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to five years and fine.

If the offence includes theft, the jail term could be extended to 14 years and the repeat offence also carries fine or whipping, on conviction.

The court set March 1 for mention the case to record Zakri’s plea and ordered him to be remanded further pending the date. Inspector Kelvan Eldon Maik appeared for the prosecution while Zakri was not represented.
