Kota Kinabalu: A new workplace cluster was identified in Tenom involving staff at Sino Hydro Kem Dua Tolokoson which saw over 130 infections. Named the Tolokoson Kem Dua Cluster, Sabah’s Covid-19 Spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the index case was a 59-year-old male foreigner who was tested positive during a symptomatic screening on Feb 19.
“Close contact screenings found another 137 positive, bringing the tally in this cluster to 138. All cases have been isolated and given further treatment.
“Initial investigations found the source of infection was the construction site,” he said in a statement, Sunday, adding that there are 42 active clusters in Sabah to date.
Sabah’s cases fell below the 3,000 mark to 2,874 on Sunday, which was contributed by a high number of backlogs.
“Backlogs are still high and this will influence the caseload reported daily until all of it has been cleared. Based on the ongoing situation and for data collection purposes, all cases recorded within five days will be considered as actual cases by the State Health Department,” Masidi explained.
Four deaths were recorded, one each in Tawau, Keningau, Kota Kinabalu and Kota Belud while symptomatic cases remained high at 58.8 per cent. Of the 2,874 caseload, 353 involved children below 11 of which 171 were children below five.
Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 775 cases, followed by Tuaran (324), Penampang (272), Putatan (210), Tenom (160), Papar (151), Kota Belud (131), Tawau (127), Keningau (120), Tambunan (78) and Sandakan (61).
Masidi said the majority of cases are mild infections, with 2,859 out of 2,874 cases being category one and two infections, which is 99.47 per cent.
“Six cases are in category three, seven in category four and two in category five,” he added.
Some 3,911 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,921 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.
On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 15,093 individuals were vaccinated on Feb 26, of which 10,804 were adults while 113 were teenagers and 4,176 were children.
As of Feb 26, he said a total of 2,413,179 individuals have completed both doses, of which 77.29 per cent were adults, while 2,500,624 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.01 per cent were adults.
