Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici was left floored by Luis Diaz's decision to move to Liverpool.
The Reds accelerated their move for Diaz after learning that Tottenham had made a bid for the Porto winger.
The Athletic says Paratici was devastated by what happened.
Diaz had agreed a deal with Tottenham in principle before Liverpool's late interest - with claims that the player was 'seduced' by Champions League football and the opportunity to work with Klopp.
But Paratici was not the only person unhappy at Spurs.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was also left furious by the Reds' manoeuvres in the transfer market and complained to Liverpool owners FSG over their employees' actions.
