Olympique Lyon coach Peter Bosz has explained Xherdan Shaqiri's struggles before his sale this week.
The Swiss joined OL in the summer from Liverpool, but lasted barely six months before leaving for Chicago Fire.
Bosz said, "We used Shaq on the right wing at the start of the season. Since we weren't that dominant, he had to cover, attack and defend a lot of space. And I don't think he's capable of that.
"He's actually a ten who has to play between the lines.
"Yes, I wanted him," said the 58-year-old Dutchman, "Shaq is a very good player and he often played on the wing in Liverpool. But the wingers are very high there, so he could use his qualities better."
