SANDAKAN: The photo that went viral of security forces performing inspections here are actually a standard inspection and operation carried out by police and other security organisations, according to Sandakan police.
In a statement, Acting Sandakan Police Chief Supt Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said there have been no arrests in the district related to the Abu Sayyaf group, as implied in the viral photo.
On that note, he advised the public to always seek confirmation from the police when in doubt.
Abdul Fuad further emphasised that disclosing information that may create public concern is unlawful, and anyone who are involved in disseminating such material may be prosecuted under the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
