Kota Kinabalu: The State women’s team will play a friendly with a senior men’s team at Penampang Stadium today (Saturday) at 4pm.
Team manager Cyril Gom said the match is to prepare the team for the Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup to be held in July this year.
“We started our preparation late last year under coach Justin Ganai, and one of the programmes is having as many friendly matches as possible to prepare the players’ fitness, applying strategy and mental strength.
“The team had so far played matches in Kudat, Tenom and Keningau against women teams as well as friendly matches with local men veteran teams in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.
“The team that we are facing tomorrow consists of senior players above 60 years old except the goalkeeper who is 50 above,” he said on Friday.
He also said most of the players in the team are national or former internationals such as Asma Junaidi, Jessica Suzanne Mailu, Pedrolia Martin Sikayun, Dadree Rofinus and Ji Fedalliah Claritta Jaimin.
Meanwhile, Justin said the training was going well despite a majority of the players also being involved with the State women’s futsal team taking part in the National Women Futsal League in March.
