Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan believes they could've signed Chelsea pair N'Golo Kante and Callum Hudson-Odoi last year.

In the aftermath of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, The Athletic reports Phelan had wanted Solskjaer to sign Chelsea duo Kante and Hudson-Odoi when they were on the market.

That was during Frank Lampard's time in charge of the Blues, with the pair struggling for regular action under the current Everton boss.

But United didn't make a play for either of them.

And that left Solskjaer short, especially in midfield where Kante would have been a magnificent signing capable of galvanising the team.
