Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was particularly impressed with new signing Luis Diaz after the Carabao Cup Final.

The Reds and Chelsea played out a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes at Wembley, and Liverpool prevailed 11-10 on penalties.

Carragher, who was happy to see his team get the win, was delighted with the impact of winger Diaz so soon after signing from FC Porto in January.

He told Sky Sports: "The interesting point about the Diaz signing is Liverpool only signed him because Tottenham went for him.

"I think he could make a massive difference to Liverpool at this stage of the season not just because of his performances, he was brilliant today but you think what Liverpool's team would have been if he hadn't signed.

"Jota wasn't right, Firmino missed out so you would've gone into the game with just Salah and Mane and maybe Minamino and Origi who we know isn't quite at their level whereas Diaz is at their level.

"This fella could make a huge difference for Liverpool in terms of winning trophies."

He added: "What tells you how well he played was that Sadio Mane got brought off. This guy stayed on and he looks the real deal.

"He's only played four or five games and possibly over those games he's been Liverpool's best player in that time period. This guy coming in now looks like being another one."
