Pearly-Thinaah out of All England C’ship

KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan are out of the All England Championship after South Korea’s Kim Hye Jeong-Jeong Na Een defeated them 21-15, 17-21, 9-21 in the quarter-finals.

At the Utilita Arena in Birmingham today, world number 15 Pearly-Thinaah gained a huge lead early in the first set, eventually winning it in 20 minutes.

The 2021 Swiss Open winners then went toe-to-toe in the second set, but the South Koreans came from behind to force a rubber set.

It was a smooth run for Kim-Jeong as they went on to win the third set and advance to the semi-finals.

Kim-Jeong will go up against Japan’s Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Later, world number seven Lee Zii Jia will take on second seed Japanese shuttler Kento Momota in the quarter-finals to move closer in his effort to reclaim his All England title at 1am local time.

Last night, world number 10 mixed pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing advanced to the quarter-finals today after winning against Thailand’s Supissara Paewsampran-Supak Jomkoh 21-19, 21-17.

They meet China’s Huang Ya Qiong-Zheng Si Wei in the quarter-finals later, with the match estimated to begin at 3.35am.

However, mixed doubles team Ong Yew Sin-Goh Liu Ying failed to win against Chinese pair Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong in the round of 16 last night, losing against the world number two pair 5-21, 15-21.

World number seven Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also exited the tournament after they were beaten by Tan Qiang-He Ji Ting of China 15-21, 19-21. – The Vibes, March 18, 2022
