Kota Kinabalu: Sabah bounced back to claim their first win at the National Under-23 Men’s Hockey 5’s Championship held at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.

They managed to beat Negeri Sembilan 3-2 in the afternoon after losing the morning match 3-4 to Kuala Lumpur.

Head coach Hasrul Jideh (pic) when contacted said the players struggled in the first game because they were not familiar with the hockey 5’s rules.

“The players were still trying to adapt to the hockey 5’s game in the match against Kuala Lumpur as this is the first time the tournament has been organised in Malaysia.

“They learned from the mistakes and performed better in the second game. They were able to regain their rhythm and created many opportunities to attack and managed to score three goals,” he said.

He hopes the team will get the three points against Melaka on Thursday evening.

“We expect a very fast match playing in the evening. I have instructed the players to avoid committing any unforced errors to ensure we get the three important points.”
